The two fence systems that are mostly used in Hungary by agricultural, forestry and livestock operations are mechanical and electric fence systems.

The mechanical fence can be modular welded mesh systems which can be easily installed by anyone however due to their inflexibility, their real value is quite low. The more reassuring choice is a strained wire mechanical fence system which can be made with the traditional V-mesh featuring 2 twisted horizontal cables and vertical wires wrapped around each horizontal cable. However based on experience, the TORNADO TITAN mesh provides outstanding quality and flexibility with its anti-slip knots. Horizontal stay wires are joined to the vertical line wire with an innovative secure non-slip knot of a different material. This technology would even allow for an 8-meter post spacing but for a fence system to really operate safely in the long term, 5-6-meter post spacing should be applied. During installation it is recommended to use a hydraulic post driver to drive the (preferably) acacia pointed posts into the ground without preliminary drilling.

Electric fence systems can be either permanent or portable systems, according to their intended purpose.

For permanently installed electric fences the diligent ranchers choose parts made of lasting materials of the highest quality and durability. The best fence systems are installed using the driving technology mentioned above with the optimal post spacing of 5 - 12 m. Only strong UV-stable polypropylene or polyamide post insulators should be used. The most important part of an efficient electric fence is insulation. The conductor in the insulators should be high tension galvanised wire if possible.

When choosing an electric fence system, you must consider the type of animal it would be used for. For example for horses it is important that the fences outlining their territory be clearly visible. This need can be addressed by using a highly visible electric tape. The second most important part of an efficient electric fence is grounding. The charger’s efficiency depends on the quality of grounding. A non-corrosive   galvanised water pipe is the best solution driven into the ground minimum 1 m deep.

Portable electric fences are usually used for seasonal agricultural management or for accommodating resting and rotation on grazing lands. It can be easily installed using insulated polypropylene or fiberglass-reinforced plastic pointed step-in rods with a foot rest. Metal wire is not recommended as a conductor, rather electric fence rope and highly visible electric tape.

The two types of electric fence chargers are plug-in and battery-powered chargers the latter of which can be supplemented with solar panels.

The advantages of the plug-in electric fence charger are: reliable operation with relatively low energy consumption (1 – 15 W), high performance, lower price and uninterrupted operation. The LACME BIpulstronic technology (short impulse, parallel discharge) is completely harmless to the animal, meets the industry standards and provides exceptional guard. Another important aspect is asset security. A GSM-based alert system can be added to the LACME  Secur Alt units which alerts when system voltage falls below the pre-set critical level.

Battery-powered electric fence chargers can be supplemented with solar panels and wind generators as well. They are recommended for areas where mains energy source is not available. Its advantage is the ease of relocation. Its disadvantages are the need for extra monitoring and maintenance and higher price.
